Valmet is planning extensive changes to its production structure in Sweden and Poland. As the Finnish company announced, locations are to be adapted and possibly closed as part of a reorganisation of the Global Supply division in order to ensure long-term competitiveness.
Valmet has started negotiations on planned changes to its global production structure. The focus is on the possible closure of the production site in Sundsvall, Sweden. At the same time, adjustments at the plants in Gothenburg and Jelenia Góra, Poland, are being examined.
Adjustments to uncertain market developments
With these measures, the company is responding to the continued volatility of the global economy and the resulting reluctance of customers to make investment decisions. The aim is to strengthen the competitiveness of the Biomaterial Solutions and Services segment and increase the efficiency of the global production network.
According to the company, up to 170 jobs in Sundsvall, 55 in Gothenburg and 130 in Jelenia Góra could be affected by the planned changes. The measures are part of the „Lead the Way“ corporate strategy, with which Valmet aims to secure its market position in the long term.
Focus on cost efficiency and production optimisation
The Global Supply division plays a central role in the optimisation of procurement, logistics and production. Valmet is aiming to achieve savings totalling 100 million euros by 2030. The steps now announced in Sweden and Poland are seen as key measures for adapting the production structure.
The company estimates that the planned changes could result in annual cost savings of around 20 million euros. According to Valmet, the full effect of these savings is expected by the beginning of 2027.
Start negotiations with employee representatives
The planned measures are now being negotiated with employee representatives in both countries in accordance with the respective legal requirements. Valmet emphasises that it will work closely with employees throughout the process and offer support during the changes.
At the same time, the company wants to ensure that delivery capability and ongoing projects for customers are not affected.
