At drinktec, the VDMA and its co-operation partners from science, research and industry will be presenting a selection of innovative processes and systems for the beverage and liquid food industry.

Circularity & Resource Management, Data2Value, Lifestyle & Health - these are the three TOP themes of this year's drinktec. All three themes are reflected in the exhibits that the VDMA is showing in its Technology Lounge. The focus is on AI-supported cleaning solutions for hygiene-critical processes, sustainable packaging concepts, circular economy and education as well as digital material research. The aim of all technologies and procedures is to make processes safer, more sustainable and more efficient, to conserve resources and thus reduce operating costs.

Needs-based cleaning processes thanks to AI and integrated sensor technology

The Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV is presenting three innovative solutions for needs-based cleaning in hygiene-critical areas such as heat exchangers, tanks and pipework. With the help of AI, intelligent software and newly developed sensor technology makes it possible to visualise when, where and to what extent soiling occurs - and cleaning processes can be adapted accordingly. This saves resources, reduces downtimes and increases product safety.

Using plastic sensibly - promoting knowledge sustainably

ITQ GmbH shows how the circular economy and education can be combined - how recycled plastic can be used to create practical learning materials. With projects such as PlastiX and EduDemos ITQ combines modern technologies such as AI, robotics and 3D printing with educational initiatives for children, young people and students. The aim is to create a „circular society“ in which not only materials, but also knowledge and enthusiasm for sustainability remain in circulation.

Rethinking packaging

Krones is researching how alternative materials how pulp bottles or bio-based plastics can be reliably processed on existing and new machines. The aim is to develop packaging that is ecologically sound and at the same time technically stable and efficient to process.
Materials are assessed under the aspects of Recycled, Recyclable, Reusable and Renewable - for a sustainable future of beverage packaging.

Material Hub - find materials instead of searching for them

The Saxon State Library - Dresden State and University Library presents Material Hub - a Central online platform for quick and targeted research of materials. It bundles data from manufacturer data sheets, specialist databases and research results and makes them searchable via an intuitive interface - according to properties, applications or regulatory requirements. This saves researchers and developers time and enables them to find suitable materials more efficiently.
Data providers also benefit: They can make their materials visible and make direct contact with interested parties. Material Hub can be used free of charge.
