Following completion of the modernisation, the Croatian Vetropack plant in Hum na Sutli is now operating at full capacity.
Vetropack Straža d.d. has successfully completed the modernisation of its plant in Hum na Sutli, Croatia. The new facilities have been producing at full capacity since being recommissioned after the heating-up phase, according to the company. The measures included the renewal of the melting furnace, the replacement of glass-blowing machines and the installation of new inspection technology.
With these technical innovations, Vetropack is not only improving production capacities, but also optimising energy efficiency and reducing the plant's CO₂ emissions. The measures are part of the company's strategy to realise the climate targets validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).
Efficient technology for sustainable production
The modernisation began in September 2024 and focussed on three central areas:
- New melting tank with reduced energy consumption
- Installation of the first NIS machine with servo drive to further increase efficiency
- High-precision inspection systems for quality control
These measures reduce the Energy consumption of the system and enable more resource-efficient production, as they say. At the same time, flexibility in the production of different glass colours is increased.
Expanded coloured glass production with new colour feeder
In addition to standard colours such as Brown and shades of green Vetropack Straža d.d. is increasingly producing individual colour shades in smaller batches. For this purpose, a New colour feeder connected to the modernised furnace. This enables the production of glass colours such as Turquoise, black-violet and UV white in production batches two weeks.
Coloured glass production has a long tradition at the site: as early as 2003, Vetropack Straža d.d. produced dark blue for Fruit juice bottles from Fructal one. Today, this shade of blue is so popular that entire bathtubs are coloured with it. With the modernised plant, the company can respond even faster to individual customer requests.
