The Voith technology group has received an order to fundamentally modernise the PM 3 paper machine of Smurfit Westrock Navarra S.A. in Sangüesa, northern Spain.

The aim of the measure is to significantly improve paper quality, particularly in the area of machine calendered (MG) paper. The modernised plant is scheduled to start production in the first quarter of 2026.

As part of the project, Voith will modernise key components of the PM 3: The wire, press and dryer sections as well as the approach flow system will be modernised. The centrepiece of the rebuild is the installation of a new MasterJet 4Tec headbox with ModuleJet dilution control, which enables improved formation and thus more consistent paper quality.

„The cooperation with Voith is an important milestone in the continuous improvement of our production capacities,“ says Enrique Sanz, Industrial Manager at Smurfit Westrock Navarra. „We have full confidence in Voith's expertise as a leading full-line supplier.“
