Flexible contract filling of adhesives and sealants at Gluetec

Both large corporations and medium-sized companies from all areas of industry and trade rely on the contract filling and packaging of adhesives and sealants. The Lower Franconian company Gluetec has specialised in these particular challenges - and relies on maximum flexibility and a full-service concept.

At the Polish production site, the highest levels of efficiency are all one- and two-component adhesives filled. Two fully automatic machines and three semi-automatic machines are available for this purpose, which are used for special customer requirements. One example is the filling of very small ten-millilitre two-component syringes with a mixing ratio of ten to one. Here, one component has to be introduced from the front and the other from the rear because the plungers of the syringes are so small that there is no space for the deaerator.

Up to 15 million cartridges or bottles can leave the factory every year. The container sizes range from ten to 490 millilitres and are tailored to the customer's wishes in terms of shape, colour and label design.

For contract filling, the Gluetec Group has therefore greatly expanded its capacities and recently invested in a new plant in Poland with a total area of 3,000 square metres.

Fully automatic filling at Gluetec

The adhesives are delivered directly from the manufacturer in drums or hobbocks. They are then filled completely automatically on state-of-the-art equipment. Even during SPC-controlled filling with internal weight monitoring using an integrated weighing protocol, a Barrel press with Y-part in use. The drum press ensures that the contents of the drums can be emptied with maximum efficiency.

The Y-part makes it possible to change the keg during filling without having to stop production. This results in time savings of more than 30 per cent compared to conventional machines. Of course, customers can also fill formulations and adhesives from the Gluetec range.

Another major advantage of the fully automatic machine is the Integrated vacuum seal. This significantly extends the shelf life and storage stability of the cartridges. The customer can choose between two possible methods: In the conventional version, plugs with an integrated deaerator are placed on the cartridges. Filling under vacuum is also available as an option.

Crimping for transport safety

Customers also have the option of having the cartridges „crimped“. This involves machining the cartridge in the area below the pistons. Barbs are inserted fully automatically into the cartridge in a crimping station after filling.

These hold the pistons in place and can thus prevent the pistons from moving and the resulting air intake in the event of climate changes and pressure differences. Crimping also ensures More transport safety and a Simplified authorisation of these hazardous goods packaging materials by the BAM (Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing).

Labelling and marking

Labelling and marking are also carried out for the company's private label customers. This also takes place Fully automatic inline directly after filling. The labels are printed to the customer's order based on the existing orders or expected annual quantities. Batch numbers, filling dates and best-before dates can also be printed on the label. In addition to the standard roll labels, wrap-around, peel-off or booklet labels can also be applied according to customer requirements.
