Walki's extensive range includes sustainable Barrier papers and cartons, including laminates with certified circular polymers. The company's customers operate in the food service and consumer packaging sectors for frozen foods, fresh produce or confectionery and for non-food items such as detergents, hygiene products, electronics or luxury items.
Walki is continuously developing new, innovative barriers for coating packaging paper and board qualities. In doing so, the company is gradually replacing conventional petroleum-based barriers with sustainable alternatives, as for example with Walki-Wood with a tall oil-based barrier or with the industrially compostable Walki-Bio with PLA coating.
„80 per cent of our products are already made from renewable or recycled raw materials,“ explains Leif Frilund, President and CEO at Walki. „For some applications, such as the frozen food sector, the proportion is already as high as 95 per cent. Our goal is to offer all products that are renewable, recyclable or compostable by 2030.“
Walki has launched a sustainability platform called „Zero waste future“ was established. The company wants to use it to develop specific packaging solutions for its customers' products and minimise waste in a holistic manner - both for food and packaging waste. The aim is to, Materials in a cycle by either recycling or composting them.
Dispersion technology offers great potential
Walki recently acquired Plastiroll, one of the pioneers and leading European Manufacturer of compostable bags and films. With capacities for extrusion coating, blown film production and printing and its portfolio under the well-known Bioska and Hauska brands, Plastiroll is a useful addition to Walki's offering.
„Dispersion technology in particular is forward-looking and offers great potential for a wide range of applications,“ says Frilund. „There is still a lot of development possible here, and our R&D is already working intensively on this.“ Interested parties can talk to Walki about this at the stand.
