The Finnish company Walki is thus anticipating a requirement of the European Green Deal, according to which all packaging sold in the EU should be recyclable or reusable by 2030.

The demand for packaging material made from recycled plastic is being fuelled by the Action Plan for the Circular Economy of the European Commission, one of the core components of the European Green Deal. It includes an amendment to the Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive (PPWD) with the aim of minimising packaging waste, that all packaging on the EU market is recyclable or reusable in an economically viable way by 2030.

Where does the raw material come from?

„Flexible packaging materials made from fully recyclable monomaterials are being an important role in achieving the ambitious European targets play,“ says Juan Pedro Hernández, Head of Sales South-West, Films & Bags at Walki Plasbel.

The old material used to manufacture the new development comes from typically from three main sourcesStretch film for pallet packaging, PE packaging material and films for bundling bottles, drinks cans and Tetra Paks. These products are collected by certified suppliers from supermarkets, department stores and shops. A selection process is then used to determine which materials are suitable for the production process.
