The Walki Group, one of the leading manufacturers of technical laminates and packaging solutions, plans to deliver the first packaging made using circular polymers this year. This is recycled material made from mixed plastic waste, which is obtained using a special chemical process.

The development of the circular polymers has Walki together with its long-standing partner Sabic. The project is part of the plan to manufacture all products from renewable or recycled raw materials by 2030. According to Walki, the current rate is 80 per cent.

„The circular polymers have exactly the same quality and equivalent chemical structure as the corresponding raw material used for the first time“

Production capacity is still low

Currently, the quantities of circular polymers used are still small, but Walki is planning to expand the range as the Production capacity of these new circular materials is growing. The circular, certified polymers are produced by Sabic. The new process that has been discovered converts low-value, mixed Household plastic waste, which would otherwise be incinerated or sent to landfill, into high-quality certified polymers.

The Walki Group wants to use the new recycled product as a Barrier layers in their Packaging solutions use. „The partnership for the introduction of this innovation is proof that our partners have also understood our mission and our primary goals for responsible behaviour, sustainability and the circular economy and are supporting us in this,„ says Walki CEO Leif Frilund.
