Washable label adhesive

Dow launches a label adhesive that is washable and combines recyclable design with adhesive performance.

Dow is launching a new label adhesive that is washable and more recyclable. The new wash-off label adhesive is suitable for recycling PET bottles and film labels and combines recyclable design with adhesive performance.

Dow's Invisum 7007 washable pressure-sensitive adhesive has been recognised by the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) as having the fulfils the strictest Critical Guidance Protocol for the recycling of clear PET articles with film labels and closures or exceeds. APR's Critical Guidance Recognition is a widely recognised assessment of the recyclability of plastic packaging and is awarded to companies whose products solve challenges in the area of sustainable packaging design.

„Labels are an essential part of packaging as they convey important information to the end consumer. Invisum 7007, an aqueous label adhesive, combines high performance with recyclability because we believe that our customers should not give up one for the other. We focus on innovation to deliver quality solutions that are designed for recyclability and help the industry fulfil its sustainability commitments.“

Production efficiency is still of crucial importance in the processing of labels. Nowadays Film labels impair the recycling process, if they are not properly separated from the labelled items, and wash-off adhesives have proven to be a suitable technology to ensure a safe and clean labelling process. clean separation of the labels and thus a high-quality recycling output. to achieve.

„Converters need reliable labelling solutions for efficient adhesion and high production speeds, while recyclers want the purest possible recycling results to increase their yields. If more applications are made recyclable and better recycling results are achieved, recycling rates will increase, less fossil fuel will be needed and everyone will benefit.“

Dow's water-based adhesive Invisum 7007 was developed to minimise the meet the requirements of label recycling and at the same time expand the possibilities of label performance. Invisum 7007 is a wash-off label adhesive with good adhesion and tack and a high solids content for high-speed processing on modern coating machines. It offers the same performance as the available high performance general purpose filmic label adhesives (GPFL), but enables better recycling. Tests have shown that Invisu 7007 wash-off label adhesive enables polyolefin-based (PE, PP) film labels to be recycled during the Separate recyclings in the washing step and produce pure flakes for new materials.

„Dow is committed to closing the loop by ensuring that 100 per cent of our products sold in packaging applications are reusable or recyclable by 2035. The APR certification for our Invisum 7007 washable label adhesive is an important third-party endorsement that gives brand owners and converters more confidence in their decision to use our products to achieve their sustainability goals.“
