SIG Combibloc, a systems manufacturer of carton packs and filling machines for food and beverages, wants to become a „Net Positive“ company and has launched a comprehensive roadmap to achieve this. „Net Positive“ means that SIG does more for society and the environment than it takes in.

„We refer to this as our Way Beyond Good. It is part of our corporate strategy and is intended to help our customers and our company to meet the increasing demands in terms of sustainable behaviour - especially in the rapidly changing markets,“ says Rolf Stangl, CEO of SIG Combibloc.

The company is committed to halving its environmental impact across the entire value chain by 2030 and doubling its social benefits by 2030. From the company's perspective, the basic prerequisites for this are good: in August 2016, for example, SIG was the first company in the industry to be able to purchase such a large quantity of FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®)-certified raw cartonboard that all carton packs produced by SIG can be permanently labelled with the FSC® label.

combidome - environmentally friendly cardboard packaging

SIG also achieved another breakthrough: it succeeded in developing a Real cardboard bottle to develop. This packaging (combidome) combines the convenient handling of a bottle with the environmental friendliness of a carton pack. In addition, an aseptic carton pack has been developed that has a significantly better CO2 balance and conserves fossil resources (combibloc EcoPlus).

„By combining responsible sourcing and consistent product innovation, we aim to offer the most sustainable packaging solutions on the market. We are pursuing a clear roadmap for the realisation of our Way Beyond Good. We have set ourselves ambitious targets for 2020 and 2030,“ says Michael Hecker, Head of Corporate Responsibility at SIG Combibloc.
