Westwing is expanding its long-standing collaboration with DHL to shorten delivery times and strengthen sustainability in shipping. The e-commerce company is focussing on the GoGreen Plus service, paper-based packaging and the expansion of flexible delivery options in Germany and selected European markets.

Westwing uses DHL's GoGreen Plus service as part of the intensified cooperation to address transport-related greenhouse gas emissions along the supply chain. According to DHL, the model is based on so-called insetting approaches and a „book & claim“ system in which the use of sustainable fuels is recognised in the balance sheet, even if individual shipments are not physically transported using these fuels. Investments are being made in electric delivery vehicles, sustainable fuels and renewable energies, among other things. In addition, all shipments handled by DHL for Westwing are sent exclusively with paper-based packaging materials, which is intended to reduce the proportion of plastic.

Faster processes thanks to new logistics structure

To further optimise its European network, DHL has invested in an international logistics centre in Poland, which is located in close proximity to Westwing's European Logistics Center in Robakowo near Poznan. The proximity should enable shorter transport routes, faster sorting and more efficient processes. Westwing is one of the first partners to gain access to the facility. According to the company, orders in Germany can now be delivered within two days in some cases.

Expansion of flexible delivery options

In Germany, Westwing also offers a pick-up and drop-off solution together with DHL. Customers can have their orders delivered to parcel stations or pick-up points. This service is to be extended to the entire product range over the course of the year.
