At this year's Glass Trend Day organised by the Glass Packaging Action Forum, the winners of the „Product Innovation in Glass 2023“ competition have now been chosen and a special anniversary prize awarded. In the listed factory complex of the Hamburg Museum of Labour, the participants of the industry event also voted for their „audience favourite“.
In the „Small Companies“ category, an idea that was as unusual as it was bold won the race. The Galler winery from Kirchheim in the Palatinate fills high-quality organic wines in returnable beer bottles. The family-run company is breaking new ground and not only impressed the jury with its sustainable and coherent concept, but also the participants at the Glass Trend Day. The „public's favourite“ also went to the organic winegrowers. The 0.5-litre longneck beer bottle used for „Zwei Viertel Wein“ is sealed with a crown cap and can be returned via the existing returnable system.
In the „Medium and large companies“ category, a new product from the Mumm brand came out on top. Rotkäppchen-Mumm Sektkellerei created a special bottle for the „Godefroy“ varietal sparkling wine, which was launched in March and pays homage to the founder of Mumm. New bottle with low-set bottle body and slim neck developed. In addition to the elegant design, there is a special technical component: At 90 per cent, the proportion of used glass in the production of the winning bottle is very high. It is produced by Wiegand glass, whose glassworks also produce the returnable bottles for the Galler winery's organic wine.
This year there was also a surprise winner. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of „Product innovation in glass“ the jury awarded a special anniversary prize and took another look at all the winners from recent years. The decade race was won by a product that was honoured in 2017: The Glück fruit spreads from Göbber GmbH. According to the jury, the product is a sensational success story that has revitalised an entire category. The iconic glass with its droplet shape, thick base and distinctive lid has long been a design classic that finds a second use in many households.
