Zapf Creation is gradually switching its entire range to plastic-free packaging from spring 2021. All plastic elements such as windows, blister packs and fasteners will be replaced with recyclable materials.
The leading manufacturer of play dolls is responding to the increasing demand for sustainable packaging with the biggest packaging reorganisation in the company's history. Until autumn 2022 the entire range should be packaged in an environmentally friendly way.
This year, Zapf Creation is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its bestseller Baby born. With Launch of the spring 2021 collection all plastic elements such as windows, blister packs and fastenings are to be gradually replaced with recyclable materials. The changeover affects packaging for dolls, clothing and accessories.
„We understand the demand from parents and children to avoid single-use plastic packaging and are helping to protect our environment by making the switch.“ Thomas Eichhorn, CEO of Zapf Creation and co-founder of the Fair Toy Organisation
More environmental protection, more unboxing fun
Instead of so-called show boxes with plastic windows and plastic blister packs as product packaging, Zapf Creation will be using closed boxes in future. A Eye-catching new box design improves the visibility of the dolls through full-size images and increases the brand presence on the shelves.
Inside the boxes, plastic blister packs and film bags are replaced with paper packaging and coated cardboard or adhesive tape are reduced to a minimum. A positive side effect of the changeover is that unpacking is easier for the children.
The new packaging is characterised by a sunflower and can be easily disposed of in waste paper. As the boxes are less likely to be damaged when opened and can be closed again like a shoe box, reselling them in bricks-and-mortar stores and online shops is easier and more environmentally friendly.
Involvement in Fair Toys Organisation
Zapf Creation also sets an example in terms of production conditions and is a founding member of the Fair Toys Organisation. It creates credibility through its seal and the involvement of stakeholders from the toy industry, trade and civil society.
