On 12 and 13 September 2024, Kempten in the Allgäu region will once again be the meeting place for experts from the food and packaging industry. The ZLV Packaging Symposium, organised by the Zentrum für Lebensmittel- und Verpackungstechnologie e.V. (ZLV), offers a platform for discussing the latest trends and developments.
The symposium, which takes place on the campus of Kempten University of Applied Sciences, covers a wide range of topics, from film innovations to chemical recycling. Prof Dr Markus Schmid from the Sustainable Packaging Institute at Albstadt-Sigmaringen University of Applied Sciences will open the event with a presentation on the circular bioeconomy and future packaging strategies. Schmid emphasises: „The mission of our institute is to provide competent and holistic support to the players in the packaging industry on the way to a more sustainable, cycle-oriented bioeconomy.“
A special item on the programme is the Presentations on cooperation between start-ups and established companies. These show how synergies can lead to innovative and environmentally friendly solutions. Other important topics include Digitalisation of manufacturing processes, the recyclability of composite films and fibre-based packaging as well as innovative sealing technologies.

The ZLV Sponsorship Award will also be presented at the event. for the best Bachelor's thesis in the „Food and Packaging Technology“ degree programme at Kempten University of Applied Sciences. The innovative content, relevance for the industry, practical feasibility and the final grade of the university are assessed. For the participating students, the event offers an excellent opportunity to establish contacts with potential employers.
The second day of the event will also focus on the optimisation of packaging processes, innovative materials and sustainable packaging solutions. Exhibitors will present their latest innovations and be available for expert discussions with participants.
