When the German Printing Ink Ordinance (GIO) comes into force in January 2027, manufacturers of printing inks for food packaging will face significantly stricter regulatory requirements. Ink specialist Hubergroup Print Solutions already fulfils the requirements of the GIO today.

The Printing Inks Ordinance is a regulation for printing inks within the German Consumer Goods Ordinance and the Cosmetics Ordinance for food packaging. It ensures a high level of consumer protection through strict specifications for the substances used in printing inks and varnishes. An update was originally due to come into force at the beginning of 2026, but the Federal Council has postponed the deadline to 31 December 2026. Hubergroup has already made the necessary adjustments for its entire relevant product range.

The conformity applies to the entire food packaging portfolio without exception: Gecko flexo and gravure inks and coatings, MGA conventional sheet-fed offset inks, NewV Pack MGA UV-curing sheet-fed offset inks and coatings, Acrylac MGA water-based coatings, water-based Hydro-X GA inks and coatings and iray MGA UV flexo inks.

Planning security for print shops, processors and brand owners

By fulfilling the legal requirements at an early stage, the printing ink manufacturer is emphasising its commitment to product safety, regulatory reliability and long-term partnerships with customers in the food packaging value chain. Printers, converters and brand owners benefit from a high level of planning security and proven solutions that fulfil tomorrow's legal requirements today.
