PPWR and adhesive solutions: David Puls, Jowat

David Puls, Global Product Manager at Jowat, talks to us at the German Packaging Congress in Berlin about the impact of the PPWR regulations on adhesive solutions in the packaging industry.

At the 21st German Packaging Congress in Berlin, David Puls, Global Product Manager at Jowat, spoke about the current challenges in the adhesives industry. The Detmold-based adhesives manufacturer is represented for the first time as a new DVI member at a face-to-face event organised by the German Packaging Institute.

The interview focussed on the effects of the PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation) on the industry. Puls emphasised that these regulations overshadow the entire event and place new demands on technical solutions. For Jowat, this means not only offering pure adhesives, but also developing comprehensive technical solutions for the packaging industry.

Puls paid particular attention to the position of the adhesive in the packaging process: „If you are in the packaging industry or packaging processes at food manufacturers, the prioritisation of the adhesive is somewhere at the very end of the line.“ Despite this subordinate perception, functionality is crucial - the adhesive must hold securely and firmly.

Jowat relies on close dialogue with customers to understand specific requirements and develop recycling-compatible solutions. The focus is on both technical suitability for the process and commercial attractiveness. Puls was particularly interested in the practical implementation of the new regulations and how companies in the packaging industry are developing concrete solutions for industry and end consumers.
