The requirements for product compliance in small and medium-sized enterprises are increasing. In this context, House of Gaia Holding has acquired sustainability start-up Codio Impact to expand its ESG software solutions and better prepare medium-sized companies for new regulatory challenges.
The acquisition of Codio Impact is more than a portfolio expansion: the software allows the software provider Code Gaia, a company within the House of Gaia Holding, to achieve ESG compliance at a product level.
Corporate compliance was just the beginning
The first wave of sustainability regulations affected companies as a whole. The next will directly impact products: as early as 12 August 2026, companies will have to be able to provide proof of recycled content at the product level as part of the PPWR. Other topics such as the EUDR, ESPR, the Digital Product Passport, REACH, or RoHS are also coming.
The pattern is always the same: the basic regulation is in place, but detailed requirements are elaborated over many years. Trade associations cannot tell their members today what exactly is coming. And companies that wait until everything is finalised implement too late.
Codio Impact recognises industry requirements
This is precisely where the acquisition comes in. Since 2022, Codio Impact has been building what other ESG providers are not delivering: AI-powered, practice-oriented industry recommendations and a network within associations in the construction, disposal, and utility sectors.
„Medium-sized, often family-run businesses don't think in quarters. They plan in generations. They need a solution that is financially viable. A template cannot simply be imposed blindly: every industry ticks differently and our customers are looking not only for sustainability, but also for sector-specific understanding.“
Tilman Kemper, Co-founder Codio Impact
Software grows with regulation
Code Gaia already offers a PPWR module and continues to expand it as new requirements are finalised. The principle applies to the entire portfolio: the aim is not a one-off implementation, but a platform that keeps pace with regulatory requirements.
„Sustainability in the mid-sized business sector can only be economically profitable if companies are able to react quickly to regulatory changes. This is precisely what we deliver with our Code Gaia software, which we are constantly developing. With Codio Impact, we are now bringing essential industry expertise in-house,“ adds Markus Adler, CEO of Code Gaia.
Code Gaia is, according to its own statements, one of the leading European providers of ESG and EHS software. The AI-powered software automates the processing of ESG inquiries, ESG reporting (including CO₂, VSME, CSRD), and the preparation of sustainability data for strategic decisions. The offering is supplemented by personal consulting. Just like I Planted GmbH, Code Gaia and Codio Impact are part of the House of Gaia Holding.
