High-performance melt filters reliably clean PET fines

The „Eco“ high-performance melt filters from Ettlinger make the fines produced when recycling PET beverage bottles recyclable. Until now, these „fines“ - unlike the better-known „flakes“ - were difficult to feed into the recycling process because they contained a high proportion of PVC, aluminium or paper.

The continuously operating High-performance melt filter According to Ettlinger, the machines in the Eco series are capable of separating the high-quality PET from such critical fractions. They can then be used to produce sophisticated recycled products such as clear thermoforming sheets or packaging tapes.

The Eco filters are used in Existing extrusion lines integrated. They are designed for throughputs of 1,000 kilograms per hour for the „Eco 200“ model or 3,000 kilograms per hour for the „Eco 250“ model. The central element of the filter elements is a slowly rotating conical-bore filter element driven by a servo motor, Cylindrical filter screen.

Ettlinger promises less melt losses

The melt flows through the filter from the outside to the inside. Solid impurities as well as gels, high-molecular and cross-linked particles remain on the filter surface. External screen area, which is continuously cleaned by a scraper. The separated particles are removed with a Discharge wave out of the filter system. The cleaned melt can be processed further.

Ettlinger emphasises that the advantage of the continuous cleaning principle is that the boreholes cannot become clogged. The Melt losses significantly reduced.
