At ProSweets 2019, special machine manufacturer Hastamat will be presenting its Vertical Multilane Wrapper, which packs sandwich cookies and cookies in rectangular or round shapes.
„The Vertical Multilane Wrapper (VMW) combines a Grouping facility for lumpy goods and a wrapping process in vertical design,“ explains Olaf Piepenbrock, Managing Partner of Piepenbrock, the parent company of Hastamat.
The machine concept combines the advantages of both a horizontal and a vertical packaging machine. Two different loading positions allow the products to be packed upright next to each other (on edge) as well as on top of each other (on pile). The grouping module responsible for this is a new development.
According to the company, the changeover time from one type of packaging to another is just five minutes. „The VMW can produce a wide range of different packaging sizes,“ says Olaf Piepenbrock.
Modular machine concept
„The compact design of the machine saves space and also allows for Use in confined production facilities. This is a major advantage of the VMW,“ emphasises Hastamat Managing Director Olaf Piepenbrock. The machine also offers the option of operating several lanes in parallel.
According to the company, up to 500 cookies per lane can be packed per minute in this way. Compared to conventional solutions, up to 22 per cent of packaging material is saved. This can be realised thanks to the modular structure of the VMW, which allows for flexible, scalable designs. The system can be expanded as required. This means that a Overall packaging performance of up to 12,000 products per minute can be achieved. The VMW packs sandwich products uncooled, so there is no need to operate a cooling tunnel.
„When it comes to packaging, the VMW is gentle on the product to avoid damaging the often fragile cookies,“ notes Olaf Piepenbrock. Thanks to the feed via a patented conveyor system and zero-pressure accumulation packaging, the packaging material also lies close to the product. The VMW processes both heat-sealable and cold-sealable films and combines a large number of patented detailed solutions.
