In collaboration with B-Better®, a start-up brand of Unilever's Future Platform, SIG is bringing aseptic carton packs with ASI-certified aluminium foil to the shelves for the first time.
Martin Herrenbrück, President & General Manager Europe at SIG: „SIG was the first company in the industry to be certified to the ASI standard. We are delighted that the first carton packs with ASI-certified aluminium foil are now hitting supermarket shelves. Packs with ASI-certified aluminium complement the extensive portfolio of solutions we offer to help our customers meet the growing consumer demand for sustainable packaging.“
Responsible aluminium procurement
The ASI (Aluminium Stewardship Initiative) standard improves traceability and responsibility in the aluminium supply chain. SIG promotes responsible sourcing along the entire value chain by using aluminium from ASI-certified sources for the ultra-thin aluminium layer in its packaging.
ASI certification creates added value for customers as the sustainability of the packaging is improved - also from the consumer's point of view. SIG customers can decide whether they want to use the FSC®-logo, which stands for cartonboard from responsible sources and has been allowed to be printed on all SIG packaging since 2016, now also want to use the ASI logo on their packaging.
The first market launch of SIG's ASI-certified carton packs will be in Belgium with the B-Better brand.
Hélène Esser, Brand Manager Future Platforms and co-founder of B-Better: „SIG's ASI certification shows that the aluminium in our packaging comes from responsible sources. By referring to ASI on our packaging, we show consumers that we are also making responsible choices with regard to packaging.“
Responsible procurement is part of SIG's Way Beyond Good, the commitment to do more for the environment and society than it takes in.
Fiona Solomon, CEO of the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative: „It's exciting to see SIG working with B-Better to promote the responsible sourcing of aluminium - all the way to the consumer for the first time. ASI's vision is to maximise the contribution that aluminium can make to a sustainable society and to create a better understanding of the importance of responsible supply chains that benefit all stakeholders.“
