Plasma technology for 2K injection moulding

Plasmatreat GmbH is simplifying the processes involved in multi-component injection moulding with its newly developed in-mould plasma process. The company will be demonstrating this live on an injection moulding system at K 2019.

With the newly developed in-mould plasma process, Plasmatreat GmbH, a specialist in the development of atmospheric plasma technologies and plasma systems for the pre-treatment of material surfaces, is simplifying the processes involved in multi-component injection moulding. This innovative technology can now be used to produce reliable bonds between polymer materials that were previously incompatible with each other.

At the trade fair, the Steinhagen-based company will be demonstrating the InMould process live on an injection moulding machine and also showing how Plasma-SealTight High-adhesion, media-tight metal-plastic connections succeed.

Based on the company's proven atmospheric pressure plasma technology, Plasmatreat has developed the new In-mould plasma process with the Plastics Technology Institute at the University of Paderborn. The integrated plasma process made it possible to increase the peel strength from 0 to 16 N/mm in tests on 2K peel test specimens (VDI guideline 2019). The system operator thus achieves Shorter cycle times and can dispense with the need to set up a second injection moulding machine. The production of a demonstrator on an Arburg Allrounder 570S 2K injection moulding machine will be shown live on the stand.
