At SPS 2019, Festo will be showing how the boundaries between pneumatic and electric automation are becoming increasingly blurred. In the course of digitalisation, the automation technology provider is also focusing on smart production.

Festo wants to position itself across all technologies and has therefore expanded its product portfolio in the area of electrical automation expanded again.

„We have to deal with a wide range of different competitors in this area. That's why we have focussed on seamless connectivity when developing our product portfolio - just like in our core business of pneumatics. This means that we offer everything from a single source, from the axis mechanics of the machine to the electronics, artificial intelligence and digitalisation,„ says Dr Frank Melzer, Chief Product and Technology Management Officer at Festo.

Plug and Work with new products

With the „Simplified Motion Series“ Festo is expanding its product portfolio in the field of electric drives. The six drives are designed for the simplest Movement and positioning tasks thought. In addition, the Simplified Motion Series can be quickly put into operation without software and without prior knowledge of programming and electrical connection technology. Advanced functions IO-LinkThese include remote setting, parameter copy, backup function and read functions for extended process parameters. The cost-effective Plug-and-work solution thus combines the strengths of electrics with the simplicity of pneumatics.

Qualification for Industry 4.0

Also at the stand is Festo Didactic with their latest Educational offer in the field of industrial automation technology. Increasingly intelligent systems and flexible production processes require a new Qualification of employees for operating the digital and intelligent systems. For practical knowledge transfer, Festo Didactic has, for example, developed the cyber-physical learning platform „CP Factory“ developed. The platform depicts the stations and processes of a real production plant in the form of a learning factory.
