Walki Plastiroll's Bioska films are among the most rapidly biodegradable films. This has now been confirmed in a study by the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE).
Biodegradable plastics are regarded as a solution in the The fight against plastic waste in the oceans, However, to date there is little knowledge about how biodegradable packaging materials behave under Sea conditions actually behave.
The Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) has analysed a variety of different biodegradable films and materials in field and laboratory tests as part of a one-year project. The Biofilms from Walki Plastiroll were among the plastics with the fastest biodegradability.
The Environmental Institute had the new transparent packaging films Bioska 501 and Bioska+ from Walki were scrutinised. Samples of the material were collected for 6 and 12 months on the south-west coast of Finland. placed in the Baltic Sea. The result: after just six months, there was nothing left of the materials.
„These results are encouraging,“ says Jani Avellan, R&D Director Innovations at Walki. „We are well prepared to support our customers in choosing sustainable alternatives. Our Bioska 501 and Bioska + films are based on natural polymers derived from plants and bacteria. The material is also very thin, which contributes to its rapid biodegradability.“
