Premiere at interpack: During the Düsseldorf trade fair from 7 to 13 May, the KHS Group will be presenting pioneering technologies from the field of primary and secondary packaging. At the centre of the presentation is a new solution for wrapping cans. With a further developed palletising infeed, the full-range supplier is also consistently pursuing its path towards greater sustainability, efficiency and process reliability in production. In the service area, smart solutions for the long and safe operation of systems will impress visitors.
With its holistic approach, the KHS Group wants to further strengthen its position as a reliable partner for flexible and future-oriented packaging solutions,“ says Dr Johannes T. Grobe, Managing Director of Sales and Service at the machine manufacturer. (Image: KHS)
„As a specialist in packaging systems, we are constantly developing our solutions with a view to material savings and efficiency during operation. In doing so, we consider all packaging materials - whether plastic, cardboard or paper,“ says Dr Johannes T. Grobe, Managing Director Sales and Service at the machine manufacturer.
„The KHS Group wants to strengthen its position as a Reliable partner for flexible and forward-looking packaging solutions further strengthen our position.“ At interpack, the system provider will therefore be presenting integrated solutions that fulfil customer requirements for economical and at the same time environmentally friendly packaging alternatives fulfil. The focus at interpack 2020 will be on a new development in the field of secondary packaging which, according to Grobe, „sensibly complements the KHS packaging portfolio and thus further strengthens it.“ This form of pack can replace shrink film as transport packaging for 12- or 24-pack containers. The first steps of the new project have been successfully completed together with a major international beverage manufacturer.

With this further development, KHS aims to support its customers in further reducing CO2 and thus reduce the overall ecological footprint. The tried-and-tested Nature MultiPack™ already offers an environmentally friendly solution with a carrying handle that is completely dispenses with shrink film, by joining the containers together with adhesive dots in a stable but easily detachable manner.

Further development of the intelligently controlled KHS palletisers increases process reliability and system availability
The advantages of an intelligently controlled system are not limited to sustainability. KHS palletiser with unpressurised pack infeed. Among other things, it optimises time processes and simplifies the work steps in production. In addition to its particularly gentle processing of packs, the absence of railings makes format changes considerably easier and faster. This significantly increases system availability. The palletiser is particularly interesting for customers who specialise in the one-way palletising of packs and cartons with different formats and frequently use a one, two or three-lane pack infeed in alternation. The machine can also be used for returnable packs.
KHS services extend machine life cycles
KHS is also expanding its consulting expertise in the area of service, for example for „old machines“ with discontinued components in order to extend the machine life cycle. This is because, unlike mechanical components, the service life of electronic components in the age of Industry 4.0 - according to the German Engineering Federation (VDMA) - is now only two years in some cases.
„This means that our customers can still operate their systems safely in the long term,“ explains Dr Grobe.
In the event of discontinuations, this means that parts can be replaced accordingly or conversions can be carried out to ensure the function of the machine and the smooth production process at the respective beverage manufacturer. For example, older KHS palletisers with discontinued KUKA KRC2 controllers can continue to be operated for many years without any problems by converting to new controllers - and the supply of spare parts is thus also ensured.
