PackTheFuture Award 2020 presented

As much packaging as necessary, as little as possible: the ten winners of the PackTheFuture Award 2020 for sustainable plastic packaging have been announced.

58 submissions, 14 nominees and 10 award winners - this is the positive balance of the PackTheFuture Awards 2020. The organising associations of the plastics packaging industry IK and ELIPSO had to postpone the personal award ceremony due to the current corona pandemic.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic and its impact on consumption, the perception of packaging is also currently changing: Its actual function is once again coming more into focus: security of supply, contribution to society, access to safe food, ecological packaging design, the use of recycled materials and the Avoidance of unnecessary packaging - regardless of the material. With the PackTheFuture Award awards are presented to packaging that fulfils these challenges in an innovative and sustainable way.

For the 5th edition of the renowned PackTheFuture Award 58 packaging innovations submitted by European companieswhich testify to the dynamism and innovative strength of the industry. According to IK and Elipso, the quality of the submissions shows that the members are already successfully moving towards more sustainable plastic packaging. With their diverse innovations, they reflect the Growing importance of the topic of sustainability for the European plastics packaging industry. The high number of entries in the Eco Design category shows that the topic of the circular economy is increasingly being taken into account by companies.

Innovative plastic packaging is on the rise

Organised for the first time in 2014, the PackTheFuture Award is based on a ELIPSO initiativeFrench association for plastic packaging and flexible packaging and the IK Industrievereinigung Kunststoffverpackungen e.V. (Industrial Association for Plastic Packaging) The aim of the competition is to innovative potential of plastic packaging throughout Europe to draw attention to their products. This European award offers member companies an ideal platform to promote the sustainability of their packaging solutions. The PackTheFuture Award is organised by the renowned World Packaging Organisation (WPO) recognised competition, the winners of which are entitled to participate in the WorldStar Awards. The Winners of this year's competition also qualify for the WorldStar Awards 2021.

The award ceremony of the 5th PackTheFuture Award will be presented on 24 November 2020 at the packaging trade fair ALL4PACK will take place in Paris. The original date of 12 May 2020 as part of Interpack in Düsseldorf had to be postponed due to the coronavirus crisis.
