Is too much fuss made about packaging? Yes, says almost one in four Germans. At least that's the result of a consumer survey. And not even one in five make their purchase decision based on whether the packaging is recyclable.
Almost two thirds of Germans take their own shopping basket or shopping bag with them when they go grocery shopping.
This is shown in the chart based on an exclusive survey by the Statista Global Consumer Survey on the topic of sustainable consumption. However, this does not automatically lead to the conclusion that the majority of respondents make sure when shopping that they Packaging waste reduce.
Only just under one in five people make their purchase decision based on whether the packaging is recyclable or not. Around a quarter also agreed with the statement that too much fuss is currently being made about packaging.
Bulk packaging unpopular - unpackaged is popular
Large packs, which in turn contain many individually packaged small items, are only popular with 12 per cent of respondents.
In addition, only 17 per cent stated that they would rather buy packaged than unpackaged goods. However, it must be taken into account here that the respondents were given the examples of fruit and vegetables in the questionnaire, most of which are sold unpackaged. And when consumers pack these products loose in bags, they presumably do not interpret this as packaging.
