The bottles then consist of 50 per cent so-called „rPET“. This is plastic that has already been recycled from the circular economy.

Proudly labelled on every bottle

The new rPET bottles are said to be in no way inferior to their predecessors, but minimise the waste of primary material by half. In addition, less energy is required during production and correspondingly less CO2 is emitted.

This is precisely why the Nuremberg-based food discounter proudly displays the use of the new material with a label on the containers. The DLG gold medal, which the product was recently awarded by the German Agricultural Society, will be just as prominently displayed on the bottles.

Bioplastics and other alternatives

The food discounter has been pursuing a strict sustainability strategy for years, which includes scrutinising existing product packaging. Norma's experts then work closely with partners and suppliers to reduce packaging waste.

In certain products, for example, the plastic previously used is replaced by more sustainable alternatives or the composition is adapted so that fewer resources are required.
