To round off the year, we once again present our most clicked articles of 2021. 4th place: Aldi tests sales without packaging

Initially in just one shop and only in the UK. However, if the model is successful, Aldi will soon become the pioneer in the sale of unpackaged products in discount stores.

Aldi recently launched its first experiment with unpackaged items in the English province. At its shop in Ulverston, customers can buy some staple foods without packaging: Basmati rice, brown rice, penne pasta and fusilli.

Paper bag is recyclable

Aldi provides its customers with free paper bags for filling. According to the company, these bags are fully recyclable and are made from FSC-certified material.

If the test run in central England is successful, Aldi intends to offer its refillable options in other shops in the future.

The discounter calculates that this could remove more than 130 tonnes of plastic from shops every year.
