With a new oval bottle base for flat PET containers, Sidel is increasing container stability by up to 25 per cent. The base is also compatible with rPET.
Sidel presents the StarLite HPC bottle base, a new Oval bottle base alternative for flat PET containers. It contributes to optimum performance and is also compatible with up to 100 per cent recycled PET (rPET). The new bottle base not only increases container stability by up to 25 per cent, but also optimises bottle weight and energy consumption, reduces production costs and greenhouse gas emissions and ensures rapid amortisation.
Bottle base ensures improved stability
The new geometry of the completely flat bottle base is Intelligently structured. Its anti-sway design is based on a continuous 360-degree contact surface that improves the tilt angle and can be combined with structural ribs and an oval push-up.
„The doubled footprint and the balanced aspect ratio between the small and large sides enable better material distribution and at the same time prevent the base of the bottle from bending.“ Laurent Naveau, Packaging expert at Sidel

A more sustainable and cost-effective flat container
The StarLite HPC bottle base can be used with opaque as well as with transparent PET resins offers different options for container design and is also compatible with up to 100 per cent rPET. The asymmetrical, structured base design improves material distribution, prevents unforeseen bulging of the base and helps to reduce the weight of the bottles - for example, 0.5 g of PET can be saved on the base of a 500 ml container.
The improved base cooling technology for mould and tool design Optimises the cooling of the bottle bases during stretch blow moulding and, depending on the bottle shape, format and weight, can prevent the base of the bottle from cooling down after stretch blow moulding.
Thanks to its design, the Starlite HPC bottle base can be blown easily and with up to 10 per cent lower stretch blowing pressure, i.e. a reduction of 3 bar for a 420 ml container. It also makes it possible to Increase process speed and increase production output to up to 15 per cent above the market average.
For example, a flat container that is produced at 1,600 bottles per hour and blow mould with a standard market bottle base can be blown at up to 1,800 bottles per hour and blow mould with the Starlite HPC bottle base - depending on the bottle shape, the following are possible even up to 2,000 bottles per hour and blow mould possible.
By investing in a new set of blow moulds suitable for the Starlite HPC, a drastic reduction in the number of moulds can be achieved. Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions This makes it possible to achieve very rapid amortisation in less than a year. The Starlite HPC is compatible with the Sidel stretch blow moulding machines SBO EvoBLOW, SBO Universal, SBO Series2 and SBO Series1 of all generations compatible.
