SIG has opened a second production plant for aseptic carton packs in China. The company intends to further expand its position in the growing Chinese market.

The new plant is located close to the first SIG production plant in Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP). Therefore, resources in production and operations management can be shared. It is also close to the Asia Pacific Tech Centres from SIG, which enables customers to realise new concepts and solutions.

„The Asia-Pacific region continues to be one of the most important growth drivers for aseptic carton packs. The expansion of our production network will enable us to further strengthen our position in the growing Chinese market. This also means that we can respond more quickly to the needs of our customers in order to offer holistic solutions for the food and beverage industry.“ Samuel Sigrist, CEO at SIG

The construction of the second production plant in China underlines the SIG commitment to the Chinese market with the aim of offering high-quality products and services to customers throughout the Asia-Pacific region. The entire production process at the new plant will be intelligently controlled, which will significantly improve operational and production efficiency. The intelligent operating system covers the areas of extrusion, printing, creasing, cutting and sealing.

Samuel Sigrist: „SIG has built a strong customer base across the Asia-Pacific region, providing innovation and end-to-end solutions for differentiating products, smarter factories and connected packaging. Our close Partnership with the two largest Chinese dairies and many other food and beverage manufacturers will continue to grow.“

Production plant in China for eight billion packs a year

By 2024, the new plant is expected to cover an area of 120,000 square metres and an annual production capacity of eight billion packs have. The plant was planned and built to minimise carbon emissions. Photovoltaic panels on the roofs can supply 1.5 million kWh of solar energy. In addition, the collected rainwater is reused after treatment, saving around 28,000 tonnes of tap water every year. In addition to energy-saving light sources, special lighting systems have been installed that significantly reduce electricity consumption.

The environmental, safety and operational performance of the new plant has already been recognised with an international industry certification: With the LEED-certificate (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) in Gold for building planning and construction. LEED is a certification programme for environmentally friendly construction that was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council and is used worldwide. The new SIG packaging plant is the first Chinese plant for aseptic packaging to be built according to the LEED Gold certification standard.
