At the beginning of October 2021, the Palatinate-based company Progroup achieved sales of over one billion euros for the first time in its history. In addition, the previous year's result was already exceeded before the end of 2021. This development reflects not least the current trend towards increased online shopping and sustainable packaging.
„Demand for corrugated board has been extremely high across Europe since the third quarter of 2020. This momentum has even increased in 2021. A development that we are observing across all markets,“ says Jürgen Heindl, founder and CEO of Progroup. He emphasises: „The fact that we were able to achieve our goals so reliably despite the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic is a real team success. This was the only way we were able to reliably meet the high demands of our customers.“
Drivers: e-commerce and consumer awareness of sustainability
The main drivers of these developments, in addition to a steadily developing economic recovery, are the booming internet trade and the general change in consumer behaviour. At a time when travelling, restaurant visits and other services were no longer a regular occurrence, the use of packaged goods over other products increased.
„We are seeing this in many sectors - from food to electrical appliances and clothing to pharmaceutical and hygiene products. What's more, consumers and retailers are increasingly demanding packaging that is consistently recyclable. This means that corrugated board packaging is becoming even more important than other products.“ Jürgen Heindl, Founder and Chairman of the Executive Board Progroup

Driving growth forward internationally
Progroup wants to continue to grow in the future in order to have a sustainable impact on the market. At the end of August 2021, the company announced the Construction of a further sheet feeder in Rhineland-Palatinate. Progroup is also continuing to grow internationally. The company's twelfth production facility for corrugated board formats is currently being built in Stryków, Poland, making it the third plant in Poland. In addition, further growth projects in France and Italy are in the final planning stage.
An important part of Progroup's long-term growth strategy is the careful Planned generation change, which will be completed at the turn of the year 2022/2023. Jürgen Heindl will then hand over the position of CEO of Progroup AG to his son and Deputy CEO Maximilian Heindl. He himself will move to the Supervisory Board.
