Mondi supplies a range of recyclable mono-material packaging for pet food to Hau-Hau Champion, one of Finland's best-known brands in the premium dog food segment.
The pet food manufacturer's requirements were clear: they were looking for a resealable and recyclable packaging solution that would not compromise on performance and would maintain the brand's high recognition value in shops. At the same time, it had to take into account the fact that sustainability is becoming increasingly important to end consumers when buying pet food and products.
Mondi found a high-barrier solution for Hau-Hau Champion that is resealable, keeps pet food fresh and retains odours.
The previously non-recyclable multilayer packaging had a metallised layer, which was replaced by recyclable mono-material packaging from Mondi: Rollstock for Form-Fill-and-Seal (FFS) bags up to 1.5kg and pre-made FlexiBag Recyclable for bags up to 15kg. FlexiBag Recyclable is a prefabricated bag made of mono-material polyethylene (PE) that has been specially developed for recycling and can therefore be fed directly into the Finnish plastic recycling streams.
The new packaging also meets consumer demand for stronger carrying handles and a user-friendly reclosure to prevent the food from spoiling and thus avoid waste. Furthermore, it is coated on the outside with a non-slip matt coating and equipped with a valve that allows air to escape to ensure optimum palletisation.
