Packaging specialist Mondi has developed a recyclable stand-up pouch made of mono-material for the Henkel brand Pril. As already reported in January, the refill product complements the brand's PET pump dispenser bottles, resulting in plastic savings of 70 per cent per use.

With the stand-up pouch made from the mono-material polyethylene (PE), the Düsseldorf-based company is contributing to its sustainability goals, according to which All packaging to be recyclable or reusable by 2025 and the use of fossil-based virgin plastics is to be reduced by half. Even the pump dispenser is made from 100 per cent recycled plastic.

A similar goal is being pursued by Mondi with its sustainability goals: "Sustainability is an important element in the homecare industry and a trend that characterises the entire market, and rightly so. At Mondi, we have defined sustainability targets in our MAP2030 action plan that focus on circular solutions. This includes the goal of making 100 per cent of our products reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025 - just like the recyclable stand-up pouch for Henkel," says Muriel Joncheray, Global Key Account Manager Consumer Flexibles at the packaging specialist.

Awarded the Blue Angel

The contents of the packaging have also been designed with the environment in mind, particularly the Good skin compatibility of the colourants and fragrances which are food-certified. Both variants of the new washing-up liquid have been dermatologically tested and certified with the ECARF seal of the European Centre for Allergy Research Foundation. The formula and the packaging concept also convinced the independent environmental seal Blue Angel.

"At Henkel, we recognise the responsibility that comes with packaging. We are committed to promoting sustainable packaging and have set ourselves ambitious targets. Our strategy is based on the circular economy and focuses on the integration of recycled plastics, the reduction of the amount of plastic packaging, reusable packaging and the use of fully recyclable packaging conceptsto close the loop," says Carsten Bertram, Head of Global Packaging Innovation Dishwashing at Henkel
