Packaging specialist Mondi has developed a recyclable stand-up pouch made of mono-material for the Henkel brand Pril. As already reported in January, the refill product complements the brand's PET pump dispenser bottles, resulting in plastic savings of 70 per cent per use.
With the stand-up pouch made from the mono-material polyethylene (PE), the Düsseldorf-based company is contributing to its sustainability goals, according to which All packaging to be recyclable or reusable by 2025 and the use of fossil-based virgin plastics is to be reduced by half. Even the pump dispenser is made from 100 per cent recycled plastic.

A similar goal is being pursued by Mondi with its sustainability goals: "Sustainability is an important element in the homecare industry and a trend that characterises the entire market, and rightly so. At Mondi, we have defined sustainability targets in our MAP2030 action plan that focus on circular solutions. This includes the goal of making 100 per cent of our products reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025 - just like the recyclable stand-up pouch for Henkel," says Muriel Joncheray, Global Key Account Manager Consumer Flexibles at the packaging specialist.
The contents of the packaging have also been designed with the environment in mind, particularly the Good skin compatibility of the colourants and fragrances which are food-certified. Both variants of the new washing-up liquid have been dermatologically tested and certified with the ECARF seal of the European Centre for Allergy Research Foundation. The formula and the packaging concept also convinced the independent environmental seal Blue Angel.
"At Henkel, we recognise the responsibility that comes with packaging. We are committed to promoting sustainable packaging and have set ourselves ambitious targets. Our strategy is based on the circular economy and focuses on the integration of recycled plastics, the reduction of the amount of plastic packaging, reusable packaging and the use of fully recyclable packaging conceptsto close the loop," says Carsten Bertram, Head of Global Packaging Innovation Dishwashing at Henkel

Beyond Meat is gradually introducing a new packaging design with improved recyclability in German food retail from January 2026.

At the Fairground Festival in Hanover, „Throw'n'Go“, a reusable deposit system from Tomra Reuse, was used for the first time, which fully digitises the purchase and return of drinks cups.

The study makes it clear that packaging plays a central role in sustainability assessment.

The Hamburg-based company one.five develops packaging with the help of modern AI technologies, currently a paper-based barrier packaging for an organic spice manufacturer.

The EU winter package recognises the crisis in plastics recycling, but does not provide any immediate help, criticises the BDE and calls for binding „Made in Europe“ targets.

The new packaging is expected to replace more than 450,000 units of conventional disposable packaging.
