Modular machine fills ground coffee and whole beans

While most people want to get the coffee out of the packaging and into their own cycle as quickly as possible, Syntegon is looking at how the coffee gets into the packaging in the first place. One possibility is the new PMX, which features a modular concept.

The PMX is made up of individual modules, which means that the dosing and capping stations as well as the machine design can be individually configured. Thanks to the modular design, specific customer requirements can be realised with efficient output at the same timeThe PMX packs up to 65 packs of 500 grams of whole beans per minute. In order to achieve an output of up to 100 packs per minute, the machine is also available in a double tube version. All stations are designed for this, Recyclable packaging materials and valves made from mono-materials such as polypropylene or polyethylene.

3D format changes on the closing section are carried out automatically at the touch of a button. If the format of the bag cross-section is changed, the machine is ready for use again after 30 minutes. It is therefore suitable for numerous small, medium and large packaging formats. Different bag variants and closure elements can be combined with each other. PMX produces stand-up pouches with pack weights between 200 and 1200 grams, both with a raised and a folded-down top section. The bags can be resealed with a tin-tie, labels or adhesive strips. Manufacturers can use a spout closure if required, The coffee beans are emptied out at the side of the packaging. The „Neutrafill“ process, in which the coffee is fumigated before and during the packaging process, ensures flavour protection.

Four-edge sealing for product presentation

In order to make optimum use of the print area and make it easy to read, the four-edge seal dispenses with longitudinal seams on the back of the packaging. „This type of seal not only looks attractive on the shelf, but also contributes to the sustainability of the packaging. By positioning the four-edge sealing module in the front area of the moulded tube the packaging materials can be optimally fed in with just a few cycles - This significantly reduces material loss,“ explains Hans Albrecht, project manager at Syntegon.

„Coffee is a popular product whose quality needs to be protected. Our aim was to develop an efficient packaging machine, that offers manufacturers both sufficient flexibility for future changes and takes sustainable requirements into account„ emphasises Christina Holm, Product Manager at Syntegon.
