A new flexographic printing line has been installed at the Mondi plant in Gronau, Westphalia. It is designed to open up new possibilities for customers in the hygiene sector. For example, inline siliconisation makes release paper superfluous.

The new machines in Gronau are designed to meet the hygiene industry's growing demand for advanced printing options for films and laminates and offer greater flexibility in packaging designs and film selection for feminine hygiene products.

The ten-colour flexographic printing press enables Mondi now also offers flexographic printing services in addition to its existing rotogravure printing capacities.

Thanks to state-of-the-art sleeve technology, flexographic printing delivers high-quality results in brilliant colours with fast output. In addition, Mondi's printing press is able to apply effect inks and additives for a matt finish - resulting in high-quality looking films that are intended to positively influence purchasing decisions.

Packaging becomes quieter and more discreet

The new line offers the added attraction of inline siliconisation, eliminating the need for release paper. Inline embossing is the answer to consumer preference for quieter, more discreet packaging. In addition, the press gives customers the option of more complex designs, thanks to precise register printing for pack marks. This allows Mondi to apply different prints to the front and back of packaging films and also offers the option of partial siliconisation for more cost-effective printing

In the run-up to the installation of the new flexographic printing system, the Mondi team in Gronau consulted closely with colleagues from its plant in Jackson, USA, where flexographic printing services for hygiene components have been offered since 2014.
