Cardboard-plastic packaging made from rPET

Greiner Packaging has developed sustainable packaging for Harvest Moon: the cardboard-plastic combination consists of 100 per cent r-PET.

Greiner Packaging has set itself the goal of keeping plastic in the economic cycle for as long as possible. Accordingly, a sustainable packaging for Harvest Moon products has now been created: the The cardboard-plastic combination consists of 100 per cent r-PET and was produced by Greiner Packaging.

The new cardboard/plastic cups for Harvest Moon's fermented yoghurt alternatives are based on 100 per cent r-PET for the plastic cup. New material is not used and the CO2-emissions significantly. "By switching from virgin PP to r-PET, we can reduce CO2 save money," explains Jan Srnka, Sales Manager at Greiner Packaging.

As the new cups are made from 100 per cent recycled, unprinted r-PET mono-material, they can be reprocessed into 100 per cent food-safe cups time and time again, provided the corresponding collection streams are available. Cardboard-plastic combinations have positive sustainability aspects: The cardboard wrap, which can be made from recycled material, gives the plastic cup stability so that it can be produced with thin walls can be realised.

In addition, thanks to a new, innovative tear-open mechanism, the cardboard wrap can be easily removed from the cup by the consumer, the two Components disposed of separately and subsequently recycled can be recycled. As the white or transparent plastic cup is unprinted, it makes an excellent recycling material. What's more, the CO2-footprint of K3 cups is significantly reduced compared to packaging alternatives.

Harvest Moon products are available from organic retailers and food retailers across Europe. Since January 2022 also in the new 100 per cent r-PET cups from Greiner Packaging.
