First tequila in a paper bottle

The world's first tequila in a paper bottle is launched on the market in Sweden. The bottle is made from 94 per cent recycled material.

The world's first tequila in a paper bottle will be launched in Sweden in July this year. The bottle is made from 94 per cent recycled material and produces less CO2 emissions, as the material is lighter than conventional bottles.

Buen Vato will be officially presented at the ProWein trade fair in Germany. This bottle is easier to transport and offers a CO2-reduction compared to conventional industrial methods. The tequila is a product of AliasSmith AB, a company that has invested in and developed Mexican brands in Europe over the last 18 years.

In 2019, the company spent almost 1,500 hours redesigning the processes and physical structure of one of its providers and participated in the climate initiative of the Swedish beverage industry (DKI) to reduce CO2-footprint of the industry. The company then decided to invest in projects with as little negative impact as possible and to inspire the industry to make changes too.

„The beverage industry needs to be transformed and sustainability must be at the centre of this change. That's why we launched Buen Vato. The cardboard bottle is just the beginning, Buen Vato will constantly redesign production, packaging and the business model to achieve perfect sustainability.“

„It's time for a change, because environmentally conscious consumers can buy the beautiful cardboard bottles and then decant the tequila into crystal bottles themselves at home if necessary. After all, why should we continue to pollute the environment just to enjoy a tequila?“

Omar Corona, Mexican environmental engineer and head of the pollution reduction programme at AliasSmith

The spirit is produced in small batches in Amatitán, Jalisco, Mexico. AliasSmith AB endeavours to work together with its producers to achieve higher standards for sustainability and CSR.

„We are very proud of the CSR projects we are involved in in Mexico that improve the lives of employees and their families. We want the world to join us by raising a glass and toasting ‚To Change‘ with us.“

Mayra Zapata, Head of CSR and Communications at AliasSmith AB

Buen Vato is in negotiations with distributors in the UK, Italy, France and Spain and will be available for tasting at ProWein in Düsseldorf, Germany, Hall 7, C15, from 15 to 17 May 2022.
