Syntegon: Focus on automation and sustainability

At Fachpack, Syntegon will be presenting an integrated system solution for packaging pistachios and the new RPP robotic pick-and-place platform, among other things.

At Fachpack, Syntegon will be presenting process and packaging solutions centred around the future topics of sustainability and automation. The highlight of the trade fair is an integrated system solution for packaging pistachios. The new RPP robotic pick-and-place platform will also be making its European debut.

Syntegon has been developing robotic solutions for decades. However, the Covid-19 pandemic has significantly accelerated the automation megatrend. On the Specialist pack is therefore the European premiere of the Robotics pick-and-place platform RPP In focus: The modular platform complements packaging lines by taking over product handling and/or product feeding. The robotic solution will be on show at the stand as part of a complete system in conjunction with the SVE 2520 DZ vertical form, fill and seal machine and the Kliklok ACE carton erector.

On site, the SVE 2520 DZ vertical form, fill and seal machine weighs MagNuss pistachios before packing them in Doy bags. However, the flexible machine also processes all other common bag formats. The RPP pick-and-place platform picks up the doy bags that are fed in flat, places them in the correct position and places five of them upright in carton trays that the Kliklok ACE has pre-formed. In addition to the tried-and-tested adhesive closure, the ACE also covers glue-free lock-style closures, offering sustainable options for various carton formats.

The individual components of the exhibited line can be configured in different ways, giving manufacturers additional scope for customising their products. serve current market trends with a variety of packaging styles, formats and materials.

Seamless integration into existing systems

Syntegon also demonstrates its system expertise with the exhibited Elematic 2001 Wraparound case packer, the is now also available in Europe with a Beckhoff controller. As the solution can be easily integrated into vertical and horizontal systems, manufacturers can seamlessly add a case packer from the Syntegon portfolio to their packaging lines and thus increase the level of automation in their production. Fast, tool-free format changes and a choice of over 100 case designs ensure that manufacturers can react quickly to changing market requirements with the Elematic case packer. All Elematic machines can reliably Also sustainable cases made from recycled cardboard material or corrugated grass fibreboard manufacture.

„We want to support food companies in making their production fit for the future. The integration of flexible, automated systems and sustainable technologies makes an important contribution to this. This enables manufacturers to react even faster to future trends.“

Torsten Sauer, Project Manager Sustainability at Syntegon

By the end of 2022, all Syntegon machines for food packaging should be able to process sustainable materials. „We are already thinking about tomorrow today: our Kliklok ACE carton erector creates paper trays for biscuits, for example, and therefore offers an interesting alternative to paper. Alternative to conventional plastic trays. And the SVE on show can also process paper-based materials in addition to plastics, for example into pillow bags for frozen food, as well as stand-up pouches or doy bags for dry food,“ explains Sauer.

In 2021, Syntegon presented new concepts for structured trays and blisters made of paper, which are formed on the TPU forming, filling and sealing machine. Just one year later, the company announced a co-operation with the contract packer Truvant, which uses the solution for various customers.  Syntegon will also be showcasing new sustainable coffee packaging made from mono-materials that can be processed into recyclable packaging on the new PMX packaging machine.

Innovations from the Services and Digital Solutions area are another focal point of the trade fair stand. Syntegon is now offering services such as maintenance, spare parts management, remote service and training in revised service agreements with different performance levels. The flexible approach enables needs-specific support at a fixed price. The service agreements also include Synexio, a cloud-based software solution for recording and analysing machine and production data. With the real-time data generated, companies can streamline their maintenance processes and produce more efficiently overall.
