The labelling specialist Securikett is launching a counterfeit protection product with a special twist. The anti-cloning security seal uses playful elements to encourage consumers to check the authenticity of the product.

The approach in developing this anti-cloning security seal was that product verification should offer entertainment value. The aim was not just to scan the unique digital code on each label, but also to incorporate other playful elements to further protect the code against tampering. This is how the digital anti-cloning label with VOID effect and playful character was created in the research department of the Securikett security printing company.

Consumers can use their mobile phone or tablet to check whether the visible QR code on the label is genuine. To prevent the code from being copied or used more than once, a multi-coloured symbol code has also been implemented.

This consists of 64 possible symbols with different backgrounds, three of which are visible on the label, the fourth symbol only becomes visible after scratching it off. The symbols that correlate directly with the code are visible on the mobile code response page. Only when these match 100 per cent in form and background is the product clearly verified. With this anti-cloning label, security and a fun factor are pre-programmed when scanning the UID, Securikett employees agree. If an attempt is made to transfer the label to another product, this is recognised by the triggered VOID effect.

This label is just one example of an application that could be used to secure goods using a double security code and at the same time offer consumers an additional incentive to scan the product to obtain further product information. In addition to symbols, alphanumeric characters or numbers could also be selected. The variants are countless.
