Schumacher Packaging & Display, part of the German Schumacher Packaging Group, has installed a Highcon Beam 2C system to boost growth and bring digital cutting and creasing to new markets.
The system is intended not only to open up new business opportunities, but also to drive forward the digitalisation of production processes. Digitally controlled mechanical creasing rules of the Highcon system with laser punching and digital stripping enable Schumacher to process more orders per shift, offer shorter production runs without minimum order quantities, avoid waste, optimise packaging and improve customer loyalty throughout Europe.
Driven by the evolving demands of the packaging and display market and the rise of e-commerce, the Highcon technology was installed in Breda, the Netherlands, in August 2022. The technology is a key component of the company's 700 million euro investment in its future viability and in the production of sustainable, environmentally friendly packaging. In addition the technology supports the vision of a fully digital packaging workflowto fulfil the dynamic requirements of brands.
"The laser cutting technology used in Highcon's digital cutting and creasing system is amazing. The system can cut out even the finest structures and shapes and create nesting structures that cannot be replicated by any other method. The system is also fully automatic and requires no tool changes. This enables us to offer our FMCG customers outstanding products with a much faster order turnaround time. This will be key to winning orders from the healthcare market, our next big growth target."
DisplayBob Malfliet, General Manager at Schumacher Breda

The Highcon Beam 2C digital finishing solution eliminates the need for the wood, metal and rubber required to produce a conventional cutting die. The transport and storage associated with these materials is also eliminated. The crush-free Highcon process also preserves the stability of the corrugated board and enables weight reduction and size customisation - which enables the production of stable packaging and displays while drastically reducing waste.
"The Schumacher Packaging Group is recognised as a pioneer and innovator in Europe. The installation of the Highcon Beam 2C in Breda further expands our corrugated growth in the EMEA market and is an important recognition of the potential of digital die-cutting to add value and open up new business opportunities. At Highcon, we are all proud to be working with Schumacher."
