How the circular economy succeeds in practice
One example of how this is already being achieved in practice can be seen in Eisenhüttenstadt, Germany, where Progroup produces particularly lightweight yet high-performance paper - based exclusively on recycled paper. Thanks to innovative high-tech machines, production is extremely economical and environmentally friendly. The clean energy for this is supplied by the company's own waste-to-energy power plant. By thermally utilising so-called rejects - i.e. residual materials from paper production and industry - it supplies the entire paper machine there with hot water vapour. The power plant also produces electricity, significantly reducing Progroup's use of fossil fuels.
The company uses the environmentally friendly papers to produce The next step is to produce corrugated board formats in one of its twelve plants - The production process is also extremely efficient and conserves resources, for example in Stryków, Poland. At the beginning of the year, the ultra-modern Sheet feeder PW14 went into operation. It scores with perfectly optimised processes and a high degree of networking.
After use paper or corrugated board can be recycled and returned to the material cycle. „We have thus succeeded in implementing a perfect zero-waste principle, which we are gradually expanding,“ says Peter Resvanis, Head of the Paper Growth Projects Competence Centre, who accepted the award on behalf of Progroup.
