
With its international „Model Young Package“ competition, the Model Group promotes young talent and thus ensures innovation for the packaging industry. This year's winners of the international competition have now been honoured in Prague.
For the first time, the event also included a design challenge, in which the best designers were invited to take part. A customised solution on the basis of an order of the Clock Craft Brewery in the Czech Republic.
Under the motto „Thirsty for Packaging“, the „Model Young Package“ competition was looking for“ worldwide for creative and innovative beverage packaging. In a two-stage process, school pupils aged 15 and over, students and young designers were able to submit their ideas.
A total of 240 prototypes for creative beverage packaging from 29 countries submitted. In the second closed round of the process, designers selected by the Model Group from the first round competed against experienced designers, to solve a real design task for a beverage start-up.
This year, for the first time, the German Design Council the role of co-organiser and media partner for the Model Group's international young talent competition for packaging design, thereby expanding its commitment to promoting young design talent.
The winners 2023
In round 1, the winner in the Unlimited - Universities and Designers category was Se Hyeon Won from the Halle University of Art and Design won first prize with the „Fold up Pick up“ project.
In the High Schools - Students category Sebastian Sikora from the Czech Republic won the race with „Jägermeister #SAVETHENIGHT“.
The special Chairman of the Jury's Award went to Katarina Davidová from Střední škola Strážnice, Slovakia, for its particularly intelligent Foltio concept.
At the Online Award, the audience also had the opportunity to choose their favourite from a shortlist of 29 prototypes drawn up by the jury. The decision was made in favour of the project by Samuel Bratko from ŠUP Josefa Vydru, Slovakia, who also won the Innovation Centre Prize with Le Tosque, which earned him a paid internship at the Model Group and prize money of 1,000 euros.
Round 2 was about the design task of a real customer (beverage startup Brewery Clock). The winner of the first prize in this category is Rolf Weilenmann from Switzerland with Fab Four.
The jury of the competition: Christian Zanzotti (Founder, Zanzotti Industrial Design and chairman of the jury meeting), Jörg Peissker (Managing Director of Merschbrock-Wiese Gewürz GmbH / HACO Group, previously Managing Director for the private label and international brand business of the Berentzen Group), Yücel Metin (Head of Packaging Competence & Innovation, Model Group), Christian Schiffers (Managing Director of the Folding Carton Industry Association) and Petr Kundrata (Project manager for packaging innovations at Plzensky Prazdroj).
