Safe handling of products is an important criterion in further processing. GUK folding machines in Wellendingen are well aware of this. The company has been a well-known name in the sensitive pharmaceutical industry for decades, and handling the lightweight leaflet paper for medicines is nothing new for the company's specialists.
In addition to the printed plano sheets, however, the folded end product of great importance. The high number of finished products per order alone also makes it necessary for specialised users in print shops to consider automated solutions for the packaging step.
At GUK-Falzmaschinen Griesser & Kunzmann GmbH & Co. KG, the Pick & pack solution integrated into the systems. With this fully automatic machine, the small folded booklets and outserts can be packed directly into the boxes (trays). This works as if all by itself, freeing up the operator to concentrate on other tasks around the folding system. The GUK Pick & Pack module automatically fills boxes with a predetermined number of items. A built-in inspection system can check the products 100 per cent before packing.

Dimensions enlarged
In spring 2018, an extended version of the Pick & Pack 600 was developed for even longer folding boxes. The width of the carton infeed chute was increased to 910 millimetres, the product infeed was optimised and the product magazines were extended to eleven instead of seven compartments, so that trays with a length of up to 900 millimetres can now be filled automatically. Products are transferred gently and mark-free to a conveyor belt and positioned for packing in the opened box. The packing process is Transparent and can be easily monitored from the outside. Special software makes it possible to use an optional camera to transfer scanned and checked products to a special sample container before they enter the packing system. This enables a systematic Sample for QA documentation without having to stop the entire system. This increases output and therefore productivity.

The camera-based control system can measure the dimensions with millimetre precision and also reliably detects twisted products. Out-of-tolerance products are ejected via the in-built ejection chute. An optional extension can check glue points using an additional camera.
