Packaging paper manufacturer Sappi Europe has expanded its portfolio and is presenting new barrier papers from the Guard family at Fachpack, including a flexible packaging paper for ice cream in wafers and a recyclable, wax-free barrier paper for twisting applications in the confectionery market.
Sappi offers a comprehensive portfolio of functional papers on the flexible packaging market - with the Focus on sustainable alternatives to multi-layer material and plastic packaging. Now the company is expanding its broad portfolio with new products such as Guard ICC, a flexible packaging paper for ice cream in wafers, Guard OHS, a barrier paper with heat-sealability for various food and non-food packaging applications, and Guard Twist Gloss, a glossy, recyclable, wax-free barrier paper for twisting applications in the confectionery market.
Customised solution for ice cream cones
The new Guard ICC flexible packaging paper has been developed for applications where Dimensional stability or protection on both sides are required. It is therefore ideal for packaging ice cream in wafers. Guard ICC is suitable for direct food contact. The bleached kraft paper is equipped on both sides with barrier properties against water vapour and grease.
The new flexible packaging paper is also convincing in flexographic or gravure printing processes as well as in processing methods such as gluing or die-cutting. Sappi is also introducing Guard OHS, a versatile barrier paper designed for various flexible packaging applications, including flow wraps, sachets and stand-up pouches for the food and non-food markets. Guard OHS is in three surface versions on the print side and different grammages are available: Natural (62 g/m²), Silk and Gloss (both in 77 g/m²). All three versions of Guard OHS are characterised by excellent barrier properties against water vapour, oxygen, grease, MOSH/MOAH and aroma and have very good heat sealability.
Thanks to these properties, Guard OHS is ideal for direct food contact and ensures optimum performance for food packaging. The papers are also suitable for a wide range of non-food applications. With Guard OHS, Sappi offers a recyclable alternative to packaging which require reliable safety properties, but for which no high barriers are required. becomes.

This addition to Sappi's portfolio has been specially developed for the packaging of confectionery and chocolate.
