The online paint company MissPompadour has developed the first paint tray made from renewable raw materials together with the manufacturer of moulded fibre parts, Papacks. The tray is made from cellulose fibres in Germany and can be completely recycled.
In this way, the company aims to contribute to Avoiding plastic in the paint and decorating industry and draw attention to the fact that there is an environmentally friendly alternative to the around seven million plastic tubs sold in German stores every year. To make the paint tray durable and stable for multiple applications, it was coated with a plant-based coating developed by Papacks provided. The tub's raw materials can be recycled and composted. According to the manufacturer, the MissPompadour! paint tray has a CO2 footprint that is around half that of comparable plastic trays.
„Paint trays don't have to be made of plastic. Wherever possible, we are committed to replacing plastic products with sustainable materials.“
Astrid Reintjes, founder and managing director of MissPompadour.
It also aims to raise awareness of sustainability among consumers, to question the status quo of everyday products and to make targeted use of alternatives. Since its market launch, MissPompadour has Around 30,000 cellulose paint trays already sold. Assuming that plastic tubs would otherwise have been used for the painting projects, this has already saved around 1.75 tonnes of plastic and plastic waste.

Paint tray - Made in Germany
The MissPompadour paint tray! is manufactured by Papacks in Arnstadt in Thuringia. Astrid Reintjes wants to avoid long transport routes in this way: „It is part of our corporate philosophy to keep our CO2 footprint as low as possible. We source all our products exclusively from Germany or our direct neighbours. The short transport routes alone enable us to achieve lower CO2 emissions than companies whose goods have to be imported from Asia.“ The fact that MissPompadour's business model is based on refurbishing old furniture, kitchens, floors or tiles with paint instead of having to buy them new also fits in with this attitude.
Practical handling
In addition to the sustainability aspect, the paint tray also scores highly in terms of handling. It holds up to 250 ml of paint and can use up to four colours simultaneously ready. It is suitable for rollers up to 12 cm long and can hold a total of two brushes. This makes it easy to carry out stencilling work, for example, where several colours are used. The Paint tray is colourfast and waterproof, which means that it can be used several times without soaking through.
