Teamwork for recyclable packaging

UPM Specialty Papers will present a range of jointly developed fibre-based packaging solutions at Fachpack 2024. These sustainable products have been developed in collaboration with partners from the packaging industry and aim to support the sustainability goals of companies and brands.

On the Specialist pack Presented in 2024 UPM Speciality Papers innovative, fibre-based packaging solutions that are Cooperation with various partners in the packaging industry have been developed. These solutions are designed to meet the growing demand for sustainable packaging and fulfil the requirements of the upcoming EU regulation on packaging and packaging waste.

The projects presented include a collaboration with Michelman, which has developed a high-barrier solution that is characterised by water-based coatings provide an oxygen and moisture barrier for products such as coffee and chocolate. Another partnership with Henkel and Koenig & Bauer has resulted in a packaging solution that is ideal for digital printing and products such as confectionery. In addition, recyclable packaging for Fazer oat and rice patties will be presented, which does not require an additional layer of plastic.

Another highlight is the collaboration with Unipaco, which has created a Heat-sealable, moisture-resistant packaging solution for salad pots has developed. This consists of 95 per cent single-component materials and fulfils the German mono-material requirements. UPM will also be showing an innovative packaging solution developed together with Bobst and Michelman for the sustainable packaging of products with a long shelf life, such as coffee and spices.
