Alpla cooperates with Glatfelter and start-up Blue Ocean Closures

Together with joint venture partner Glatfelter Corporation, the Alpla Group is investing in the Swedish start-up company Blue Ocean Closures (BOC). The aim is to develop innovative closures based on natural fibres and other moulded packaging solutions using dry moulding technology.

Together with joint venture partner Glatfelter Corporation, the Alpla Group is investing in the Swedish start-up company Blue Ocean Closures (BOC). The aim is to develop innovative closures based on natural fibres and other moulded packaging solutions using dry moulding technology.

As part of the partnership, Alpla and Glatfelter are jointly investing in the Development of high-quality cellulose-based products such as screw caps, which are completely bio-based and potentially biodegradable. The aim of this collaboration is to BOC This will support product development and shorten the time to market even further.

Impetus for the circular economy

The partnership with Glatfelter and BOC is in line with the strategic focus of Alpla on increased investment in the circular economy. The four Rs Replace, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle are intended to initiate forward-looking activities and identify the need for action. The Replace research area comprises the Research into and use of alternative, bio-based and recyclable materials to expand and complement the product portfolio.

Reduce concentrates on a Continuous reduction in material consumption. Reuse is about optimising the properties of plastic bottles for reuse systems, and Recycle is concerned with the overarching goal of keeping as much plastic as possible in the recycling loop.
