More than three quarters of respondents to an Amcor study want more recycling options, easy recycling and to ensure that a product is actually recycled. The survey polled 12,000 consumers in six countries worldwide.
The study showed that 76 per cent of consumers in the USA, UK, Germany, Australia, China and Brazil want to recycle more and that recyclability is the most important sustainability feature for packaging - ahead of other aspects such as reusability and the materials used.
Consumers are also demanding changes from manufacturers and governments: 83 per cent said that brand manufacturers should make it clearer how to recycle packaging. At the same time, 80 per cent believe that it should be the responsibility of recycling service providers, such as local authorities, to make the Improve infrastructure for recycling and waste disposal, so that packaging can actually be recycled in practice.
