Over 7,200 entries from 56 countries have applied for the iF Design Award. A prize that has been awarded since 1954 and is becoming increasingly popular. With greater competition
these winners from the packaging sector deserve even greater praise. Congratulations!
They are 14 per cent more submissions this year. The growing interest in the iF Design Award can be attributed to the dedicated team around Managing Director Ralph Wiegmann. However, it is also the industry's aspiration to be a high-calibre jury which is also international. And, of course, there is also an award at the end, with which the company can honour its Underpinning our position in the design sector can.
In the 146 awards were presented in the packaging category (one of a total of six categories). Including two Gold Awards.
What is exciting is that for years Outstanding number of contributions from China, Taiwan, Korea and Japan come from Asia. Accordingly, 83 per cent of the awards went to Asia. One of the two Gold Awards went to creatives from Germany, who this year, due to the pandemic, can only accept their award virtually in front of the public.
Two iF Gold Awards for packaging
An award with the Gold Award received in the group Beverage packaging the beer can series for Craft Beer from AND Union GmbH Munich, a combination of four Bavarian family breweries whose tradition stretches back between 90 and 500 years. The design of the series documents simplicity, straightforwardness and sustainability, just like the contents.

A fine example of how less can be more and still stand out from the crowd.

Each of the different plain-coloured tins in the series with simple typography, matt surface and tactile features stands for a Flavour profile.
The second Gold Award was also won in the Beverage Packaging group, the largest group within the Packaging Design category, for the Chinese tea packaging Mountain tea - Song awarded. This tea is produced in three different concentrations, which are determined by the roasting time using charcoal. Accordingly, the packaging is divided into three basic tones from white to silver to bronze.

The quality of the materials used and the design emphasise the impression of enjoyment and high quality.

Delicate drawings reminiscent of Chinese landscape painting The colours of the cheese remind the consumer of its origin in the high mountains.
iF design awards in red for food packaging
For the packaging design this year eleven German companies won the iF Design Award in red. In the food packaging group, these include The Bahlsen Family for the new corporate design of the Bahlsen Group and PENNY LUCKY DOGS AND CATS for the Pet food packaging from Penny, which was developed to revitalise the existing brand.

To revitalise the brand, expressive animal images were used alongside the small heart in the logo.

OHDE - a packaging for the high-quality marzipan sweets made by hand in a 250-year-old tradition - also received the award in red for the update of the classic branding in combination with bright, lively colours as a link between tradition and new creative flavours (design agency: Fabian Lefelmann, Berlin, user: OHDE Berlin).
iF Design Awards in red for packaging in the beauty and health category
In this group of packaging „Sober clean care“ excellent. The packaging stands for sober, pure care products for men, whereby the purist „made in Berlin“ design concept which rejects harmful or superfluous additives in the contents and packaging.

The sustainable soap set scores highly as gift packaging.

The coffee soap set „Grace of Waste“ is sustainable both as a product and as packaging. The high-quality soaps contain coffee grounds, as they promote blood circulation, renew cells and have a regenerative effect, making them ideal for use in cosmetics.
The cardboard for the packaging was made from recycled coffee cups manufactured. This highlights opportunities to create products and packaging that are both sustainable and stylish.
iF design awards in red for industrial packaging
Only one award was presented in this group. The winner was the Systainer³, the third generation of a packaging and transport system developed in co-operation between vehicle and container manufacturers.

The third-generation stackable transport packaging is optimally adapted to the vehicle.
