The pharmaceutical and healthcare industries are also looking for sustainable packaging solutions. Huhtamaki and partner Klöckner Pentaplast have now developed a blister lid made from mono-material PET that is aluminium-free and can be used in existing packaging lines.
The Push Tab blister lid from Huhtamaki is made from the mono-material PET and is aluminium-free. It has been developed to fulfil the strict safety requirements for pharmaceutical and healthcare packaging and offers the industry a More sustainable alternative to conventional push-through blister packaging. Functionality and efficiency are maintained as Push Tab blister lids can be used on existing blister packaging lines without compromising on speed.
„We are proud to partner with Klöckner Pentaplast to launch the Push Tab® blister lid and continue to shape the sustainable future of pharmaceutical and flexible packaging. This innovation is part of our blueloop platform, which enables us to accelerate innovation and improve the circularity of high-performance flexible packaging solutions. We are working hard to turn all our products into fully recyclable mono-materials. In addition, we are working with partners along the entire value chain to develop innovations that will help achieve ambitious sustainability goals worldwide.“

„The pharmaceutical industry is proactively looking for sustainable packaging solutions that enable recyclability. As blister packs traditionally contain multiple materials, it is difficult to recycle them in a single recycling stream. The Push Tab blister lid solves this problem as it is made from mono-PET. Push Tab can be used on existing blister packaging lines and is a plug-and-play solution, which means that no additional investment is required for our customers. This newly developed unique technology makes PET-based lidding films push-fit and ensures easy access to the tablet for the consumer.“
